Yesterday the idea was born and because I began to take action immediately it will soon grow legs and walk, or a wheel and roll.
On January 13th I attended Weber State’s basketball game. I usually enjoy the halftime entertainment and that day was no exception. Performing was Red Panda Acrobat, the lady that rides an 8 foot unicycle and flips bowls onto her head. She dropped the 5 bowl attempt multiple times and was visibly upset and determined to complete the task, even though the halftime managers appeared worried about time.
It was a good game and I didn’t think much about it until yesterday. While eating lunch at a local sports joint some coworkers and I were discussing Weber State basketball. The Red Panda performance was brought up and the thought of working as a halftime entertainment came into my mind. I thought to myself, hey I own a unicycle how hard could halftime entertainment be?
I went back to work and did a Google search (shhh don’t tell anyone) for halftime entertainers. There is some great stuff out there but I couldn’t find anything exactly like what was brewing inside my head.
There are a few themes that seem to have continuously recurred throughout my life. Those are basketball and juggling (with a little unicycle flirtation). Why not combine the three into some kind of work/play heaven? I’ve been jokingly told throughout my life to join the circus. Now I have decided to just become my own one man halftime circus.
When I got home from work I informed my wife that I was officially a halftime entertainer (because I said so). I dug out my unicycle, dusted it off, began relearning to ride (thus the chafed upper thighs). The journey has begun!
